Why Content Marketers Should Be More Like Greta Thunberg

Even if they don’t believe climate change exists

A fifteen-year-old Swedish girl with Asperger’s is tired of no one taking the climate crisis seriously. She decides to take a seat at the parliament building during the run-up to the elections, holding a self-made sign that says ‘Skolstrejkför Klimatet’, school strike for the climate. Only a few months later, the biggest climate protests of all time are taking place around the world. And it’s all because of her: Greta Thunberg.

She isn’t particularly popular nor charming. Yet she inspires hundreds of thousands of people to take action. World leaders queue up for a selfie with her, animal species have been named after her and she has been painted into murals and made into dolls. On the internet, people talk more about Greta than they do about Angela Merkel or Cardi B.

How does she do it?

True to her word

Greta’s secret weapon? Consistency. It’s very clear to us that she values the climate. Not just because she’s written it on a protest sign, but also because it is reflected in her daily choices. Greta is a vegan, for instance, and she will never get on a plane. When she has to travel halfway around the world to address the UN, she hitchhikes on a freighter…
